Different render types

Why Render Type Matters for Cleaning

Not All Renders Are Equal: Different render systems have different properties, textures, and vulnerabilities. What works safely on acrylic render might not be appropriate for silicone render or traditional painted cement render.

Through-Coloured vs Painted: Acrylic renders are through-coloured, meaning the colour goes all the way through. Traditional cement render is usually painted. This affects how we clean and what solutions we use.

Texture Considerations: Textured renders like pebbledash or roughcast finishes require extra care to avoid damaging the surface profile. We adjust our pressure and technique accordingly.

Our Expertise: We have extensive experience cleaning all render types across Yorkshire. We identify your render type during our survey and use the appropriate cleaning method to achieve outstanding results without any risk of damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about cleaning different render types

Can you clean all types of render safely in Yorkshire?

Yes, we specialise in cleaning all render types including Cement, Lime, Acrylic, Pebbledash, Roughcast, and Silicone render. Each render type requires specific cleaning methods and solutions. We assess your render type before cleaning and use appropriate soft washing techniques that are completely safe. We never use high-pressure washing on render as it can cause irreversible damage.

What is the difference between cleaning acrylic and traditional cement render?

Acrylic render is through-coloured, meaning the colour goes all the way through the material. Traditional cement render is usually painted. Acrylic is generally more forgiving to clean as there's no paint to damage. However, both types require soft washing rather than pressure washing. We use slightly different cleaning solutions and techniques depending on whether your render is through-coloured or painted.

Will cleaning damage the texture or finish of my pebbledash or roughcast render?

No, our soft washing method is completely safe for textured renders like pebbledash and roughcast. We use very low pressure (similar to a garden hose) combined with specialised cleaning solutions. This removes algae and staining without affecting the texture or finish. High-pressure washing can damage textured render by eroding the surface, which is why we never use it. We've cleaned thousands of pebbledash and roughcast properties without any damage.

How do you clean silicone render which is supposed to be self-cleaning?

While silicone render has hydrophobic (water-repellent) properties that help it stay cleaner, it's not completely immune to algae growth, especially in Yorkshire damp climate and on north-facing walls. We use gentle cleaning methods that remove organic growth without damaging the silicone coating. After cleaning, the hydrophobic properties are restored, and the render will shed water effectively again.

Can you identify what type of render I have if I'm not sure?

Yes, absolutely! Many homeowners aren't sure what type of render they have. During our free survey, we can identify your render type by examining its texture, finish, and characteristics. This is important because different render types require different cleaning approaches. Common signs include: through-coloured texture (Acrylic), smooth painted finish (Cement), exposed aggregate (Pebbledash/Roughcast), or water-beading surface (Silicone render).
